This past winter has been crazy. Mother nature can’t decide between winter or spring temps.  Here are some landscaping fun facts to help inspire you for the coming months.

  • Did you know that plants improve air quality?
  • Trees block noise by reducing sound waves. They reduce noise through a phenomenon called sound attenuation, which is the reduction of sound intensity. Leaves, twigs, and branches on trees, shrubs, and herbaceous growth absorb and deflect sound waves to mask unwanted noise.
  • It is a known fact that after a stressful day at work- looking at a yard with the view of natural elements, such as trees and flowers, experienced less job pressure, were more satisfied with their jobs and reported fewer ailments and headaches that those who either had no outside view or could only see built elements from their windows. The place should be designed in such a way that even if you’re indoors, you would have a good view of the lush trees and lawns. And if you’re working late, it’d be beneficial if you installed low voltage landscape lighting in your garden, as the color green is found to be soothing to tired eyes, studies reveal.
  • One hour of weeding burns 300 calories ( the same as walking or bicycling at a moderate pace), and manual push mowing of the lawn burns 500 calories per hour (the same rate as playing tennis).
  • Did you know well kept landscaping can add as much as 14% to the resale value of your home.
  • A tree shading an outdoor air conditioner unit can increase its efficiency by as much as ten percent.  Strategically planting trees and shrubs can save you up to 25 percent on your energy bills. A shade tree can help cool your home by as much as 20 degrees in the summertime. Not only do they provide shade in the summer, but serve as a windbreak in the winter, too.
  • Trees improve water quality. As rain falls to the Earth, it is slowed and filtered by trees, helping it soak into the soil. Trees then serve as natural sponges, collecting and filtering rainwater and releasing it slowly into streams and rivers. They also prevent soil from eroding into our waterways, reduce stormwater runoff, and lessen flood damage.
